Big Boy

Recently John has decided that he actually likes to have his CI on. Today he saw it sitting on the desk and tried to put it on. He wasn't able to, but he was really trying to. I told him to bring it to me and I would help him so he brought it across the room and handed it to me and turned around so that I could put it on him. Also he's gotten into the habit to put the magnet back on when it gets knocked off. With this new ability he's also started taking it off when he doesn't want to listen to what's going on. The other day we were sitting at supper and my husband and I were talking and he told me that John had gotten into trouble for running across the couch and when I turned and said something to him about it he took the CI off and started mouthing words to me. It was actually cute and funny, but being the responsible mommy that I am I tried my best not to laugh. Also today while getting ready to go to school, I helped him get his coat on and was going to wait on his harness for alittle bit because it wasn't quite time to go, but John grabbed his harness and tried to put it on. It's hard for me to get that silly thing on him, but he was determine to get it.

We had an ABR done on his right ear. He is responding to higher frequencies now than he was when he was younger. He'll be getting his hearing aid in about a month and we are going to work with him on getting use to that again.

ER Trip

We got to visit the ER today due to a fever induced seizure. We spent a few hours at the hospital and John got an X-ray of his lungs and tested for strep throat. Everything came back normal and they sent us home. John, of course, wasn't happy. He's feeling a bit better now, I think he's still tired. I'm going to wait til morning to decide if he's going to school, since it will finally be open after a week due to the Ice storm we just had.

CI Update

John recently started wearing his cochlear implant again. Yay.... Problem is it's turned way down, because he hadn't worn it in so long that he couldn't handle the setting it was on. We are slowly working our way back up to where it is suppose to be and we have another appointment set in February and by then we are suppose to have him back to where he was. We are well on our way I've already turned it up once and next week I'm going to try to turn it up just alittle more. Also since I'm talking about his ears, we have an appointment set later in February to have his right ear tested again because we think that he is hearing more out of that ear then we were told that he would.

What's going on??

O.K. as you know my son is PICKY when it comes to eating. Why is it that he's enjoying all types of new foods, and actually willing to try something new if you kind of work with him. He doesn't always keep the new food in his mouth and sometimes it ends up on the floor but at least he's now willing to try. Today he ate 1 1/2 plain cheeseburgers at Mc Donalds. He loved them, and he also tried BBQ sauce, but we're not sure if he really liked it or if he just liked dipping the fries in it and licking them ('cause he wasn't eating those fries) and getting more just to play around.

Yet another new food

John just finished 1/2 a cheeseburger. I'm starting to think that nothing is safe around him anymore. Daddy was sitting across the room eating and John went over to him and got a bite and then another and then another, you see where this is going. Maybe he'll start putting on the weight the way he's been eating everything.

Christmas

John did fairly well for Christmas, only a few break downs and they were not that bad. He was able to regroup and over all I think he had a great time. I know he once again racked up on the presents. My house is covered with new toys all over the place.

Stuffed Crust Pizza and soy butter bread

Just a little news for today. John has now added Stuffed Crust pizza from Pizza Hut to his diet. By the way, daddy and I didn't get much of the stuffed crust and John also ate one whole piece of pizza, cut up of course.

John also has now tried a Soy Butter sandwich. It's like peanut butter for those of you who don't know, but since John can't have peanut butter we all eat soy butter, it's not that bad. John even agrees

Computer Time

Recently John has picked up playing on the computer. He has actually gotten really good on it. He enjoys playing games on Pogo and Polar Bowler both of which he can access completely on his own. He's also gotten into my favorites and found a web site full of learning games that he enjoys.

In other news. John now drinks from a straw. He also has added a few things to his menu. He likes grilled cheese and he's also tried french toast which he enjoyed, however he has not had it again because of the mess that came with it.
